L.E.A.D.

What is L.E.A.D.? It stands for Law Enforcement Against Drugs. The program has replaced what many know as D.A.R.E.  Garfield Police Department's Juvenile Services Division Unit delivers the L.E.A.D. program in all public elementary schools in collaboration with the District Substance Assistance Coordinator in educating our students. L.E.A.D. is currently being taught to our fifth grade students over several weeks at each building throughout the year. This program is a very comprehensive effort in taking drug prevention and police involvement to the next level.

The Gang Resistance Education Training program (G.R.E.A.T), is also taught by the Unit officers to all eighth grade students. Throughout the year additional programs, assemblies and special events are offered throughout the year in schools and in the community for both students, parents and faculty. The District works with the Juvenile Services Division to bring these various programs to Garfield.
