Eligibility, Acceptance, and Enrollment

Eligibility & Nomination Information

Ms. DeWitt, the instructor of the Gifted & Talented Program, accepts nominations throughout the school year. All student populations of general education, ELLs, those with Individualized Education Plans, and a 504 Plan are considered. Teachers, administrators, and parents are able to nominate a student for the program by using the nomination link in the menu to the left. Once a nomination is submitted, it is reviewed by Ms. DeWitt within seven to ten school days.

Acceptance

Nominations initiate the review process which utilizes a matrix to determine eligibility.  Multiple measures such as the Renzulli - Hartmann Scale, Academic Grades, Work & Study Skills, Performance Matters Analysis, IRLA Score, ACCESS testing (ELL), CoGAT score (if available), and Rubrics, are used to determine whether or not the student meets the requirements of the traits in each area of measure.  If a student meets the criteria for acceptance, a formal email will be sent to the parents/guardians, the principal of the school, and to the homeroom teacher confirming eligibility for the program.

Acceptance for the current school year does not guarantee that a student will be accepted in the subsequent years.  A separate matrix is utilized for students that are currently in the gifted program at the end of the current school year to determine eligibility for the following school year.  The matrix contains multiple measures as mentioned above.
 Enrollment

Enrollment is finalized when the parent/guardian completes the Parent Permission Form in full and submits it to Ms. DeWitt.  Upon receipt of the completed form, the student will be placed into a group to attend the program on a rotating basis. The group number and schedule will be provided to the parents/guardians, the student, the principal of the school, and the homeroom teacher.
