Parents and families should consider all the factors regarding the health and safety as well as the academic and social background of the child when choosing the option that best meets the needs of the student.

“HYBRID” SCHEDULE FOR LEARNING: COMBINATION OF IN -PERSON AND REMOTE LEARNING

Due to enrollment, building size and classroom size, as well as the daily academic schedule, Garfield's students will follow a hybrid model of on-site and remote learning. Grades PK-12 will follow a one-session day schedule. By dividing each grade into two groups (PURPLE & GOLD) -- only one of them on-site at a time, all efforts will be made to safely accommodate students with desks that are 6 feet apart. 

Students will be placed into cohorts named “PURPLE” and “GOLD” and we will make every attempt to arrange the cohorts by alphabet so that siblings follow the same schedule. “PURPLE” will attend school on Mondays and Tuesdays. GOLD” will attend school on Thursdays and Fridays. Wednesdays will be remote learning for ALL students.  On days that the cohort is not scheduled to attend in person instruction, students will log in for remote learning lessons.

“FULLY REMOTE” SCHEDULE FOR LEARNING:  STUDENTS DO NOT REPORT FOR IN- PERSON INSTRUCTION ON ANY DAY.

This group of students will be in the “Boilermaker" cohort and will remain enrolled in the Garfield District. Boilermakers will learn from home every day and will be able to participate in lessons that are delivered to students receiving in person instruction. Teachers will be in live- streaming lessons when new material is presented to the class.  All assignments are turned in remotely. If this option is selected, the student must remain in the Boilermaker cohort (fully remote learning) until the end of Phase 1, which is March 5th.

According to the Board Policy, a student must remain in remote learning for 30 school days prior to having the opportunity to transition to in-person instruction.
